Xanathar's Guide To Everything (Book)
Continuing our series of reviews for Xanathar's Guide to Everything, I cover the new spells introduced in the supplement. Elegant Courtier: You'll never beat the bard at being the party face. That being said, druids lack for ranged damage cantrips, so it might be worth keeping. Anyway - it's situational but decent. Levels 1-6 you still want to open with hunter's mark and then tag them with Slayer's Pray. Nothing bad, but not the reason to pick this path. What madman would take this over, say, Sculptor of Flesh? The Tomb of Annihilation was already full of mostly puzzle-based traps. The Xanathar's Guide to Everything adds more depth to traps. Aspiring Dungeon Masters can follow guidelines and mechanics to design their own unique traps.
Xanathar's Guide to Everything has fun, Magical Toys. Indeed, plenty of the content doesn't have any impact on the gameplay whatsoever, such as a guide for generating character backstories or long tables of random names for the DM to consult when players insist on speaking to everyone in the tavern. Spell cards for the new spells from Xanathar's Guide To Everything, for Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition (does not include spell cards for the reprinted Elemental Evil spells).

Dungeons & Dragons Next Xanathar's Guide To Everything
OK, so the book itself says you can play Dungeons & Dragons with theВ Player's Handbook,В Dungeon Master's Guide andВ Monster Manual. The question most groups will likely be asking themselves is whether the $49.95 MSRP is worth the sticker price. Well, good news! The book is under $30 at many retailers, and it nearly doubles the amount of options for individual players regardless of class while providing guidelines for a number of tricky situations as well as expansive flavor material like origins and life events.
An adventure. Like Volo's Guide, this is an options and rules supplement. There are a lot of quality of life” options, creative things that try to anchor the story element for the game. Sure the Encounter Table lends itself towards the combat element, but overall these are all ideas and options that both players and DMs can choose to keep or let go. But there is no story to be had! Unless you, for some reason, are hooked on the Xanathar itself… there isn't a lot going on.
The good news is that Xanathar's adds dozens of new spells to 5e casters, and (discounting SCAG which only gave us a few cantrips) this is the first book to do so since Princes of the Apocalypse. The bad news is that almost all of the EE spells have been reprinted here, the list of truly original spells isn't actually that large. Since some of the EE have been changed slightly since their original publication, I will just bite the bullet and do the entire list.
There has not been an official statement of how Xanathar's Guide to Everything will be implemented in the D&D Adventurers League1. The reason being is that the AL admins haven't had a chance to look at it, since it's not yet complete. The AL tries to be as inclusive as possible with official Wizards of the Coast D&D products, but we cannot make comments on things we haven't seen in their final form yet.

With over twenty-five subclasses for characters in the Player's handbook from Hasbro, this hardcover has druids, fighters, rangers, and many more characters. In addition, the book has dozens of spells, racial feats, and the ability to give characters random back-stories. A variety of tools provide Dungeon Masters with traps, magic items, and more.

That 5th edition Dungeons & Dragons is playable even without this volume, and that this volume contributes to that playability (rather than, say, 4th edition's having limited actual playability absent Player's Handbook 2 and 3 ), makes Xanathar's Guide to Everything all the more worth it.
These aren't game-changing uber items, but rather rewards for close-knit parties and springboards for dynamic storytelling. Xanathar's continues the tradition of D&D's fifth edition by giving Dungeon Masters permission — permission to be creative, permission to improvise, permission to bring surprise and joy and discovery into their games. At $29.99 on Amazon right now, it's an absolute steal.

Continuing our series of reviews for Xanathar's Guide to Everything, I cover the new spells introduced in the supplement. TRAPS REVISITED The ruJes for traps in the Dungeon Master's Guide provid e the basic information you need to manage traps at the gam e table. The material here takes a different, more elaborate approach- d escribing traps in terms of their game mechanics and offering guidance on c reating traps f you r own using these new rules. Rather than characterize tr aps as mechanical or magical, these rules separate traps into two other categories: s imple and complex.
I feel this also speaks to the popularity of the 5th edition of D &D. Xanathar's isn't a stand-alone product, after-all, it's a supplement that requires the base system to play and works with all of the streamlined rules that came with it. In it's own way, I'm glad to see that as well because 5th edition's changes from 3.5 and 4th are very welcome and intuitive and this just reinforces the work that went into it and I expect we'll see it grow with this kind of acceptance and support. If you haven't seen the new edition yet and you've read this far, maybe now's the time to check it out while this thing is flying off the shelves, relatively speaking.
Xanathar's Guide has plenty of new spells for all of the classes - some more than others. The Arcane spellcasting classes get a bunch of new spells to add to their arsenal. Most of the new arcane spells are reprinted from the obscureВ Elemental evil supplement. It's good to have these spells collected for easier access though, and there's enough new spells to justify the purchase. The Guide adds many new summoning spells, necromancy spells for less moral characters, and even a sorcerer exclusive spell.
Much like Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide and Volo's Guide To Monsters, Xanathar's Guide is a resource guidebook and not a dead-set list of rules you have to follow. As always, when building a character from scratch or creating a new campaign, you adhere to the Player's Handbook and Dungeon Master's Guide (respectfully) to get you started. What Xanathar's Guide does is offer new options once you get all the basics done and you want to explore new options. Unlike previous books, this has three main sections: Character Options, Dungeon Master's Tool, and Spells. The first two take up the majority of the book while the last take up maybe an eighth. Regardless of space though, everything in here is brand new to play with.

Xanathar's Guide to Everything is divided into two sections—one for PCs, and one for DMs—and this accounts for the bulk of its value as a new rule book; certainly, compared with Volo's Guide to Monsters (the only part of which I can use being that on monster PCs), Xanathar's Guide is a vast improvement. The fact that several of the new builds for the "core" PC classes intrigue me, arguably more than some of the original builds in some cases, is an argument in Xanathar's Guide's favor, and that the main portion of the information for DMs consists of elaborations on information already provided in the Player's Handbook is equally so. Moreover, those parts of the second section that aren't so geared supplement the PHB without being absolutely vital, and the tables for generating character names is an added nice touch, even if the tables for generating human names based on real-world ethnic groups has a tinge of cultural appropriation.
Possibly the most anticipated aspect of the Xanathar's Guide to Everything expansion is the 30 subclasses introduced to the game.
